What Lublin monuments talk about? Part 1

This walk is the first part of a series of 3 walking tours that follow the route of Lublin’s monuments. Participants will get to know the places from which the monuments have disappeared or have been moved. They will also discover completely new monuments that have just been created. They will learn the circumstances of their creation and the interesting facts related to them.

The first part of the tour will cover the Śródmieście district. Participants will set off from the Litewski Square full of monuments and events: Monument to the Constitution of 3 May 1791, the non-existent Monument of Gratitude (built in the place of the Monument to the Brotherhood of Arms of the Slavic Nations), Monument to the Union of Lublin, Monument to the Unknown Soldier, Monument to Marshal Józef Piłsudski, created on the basis of pre-war design.

Before the participants go to Radziwiłłowska Street to stand in front of the Monument to the Victims of the Lublin Ghetto, they will see the Monument of Honorary Blood Donors and anonymous benefactors. They will return along Staszica Street to Krakowskie Przedmieście to wash their hands in Zdrój-Koziołek created by Municipal Water Supply and Sewerage Company and then go to Wolność Square, where there is a mini copy of the former Water Tower created by the same founder. Then, walking along Narutowicza Street, they will come to the Church of Our Lady of Victory. There is a modest Grunwald Monument next to the church, and on the adjacent square, there is a Monument of Jan Kochanowski with a very interesting history. There is the Armenian Cross nearby, a gift from the Ambassador of Armenia on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of our city.

Reaching the crossing with Okopowa Street, participants will admire the modern work of the Lublin artist Tomasz Kawiak – his famous “Pants”. Finally, right next to the Centre for Culture, the participants will stand in front of the Monument to the Mother of Sybiracy and an urn with soil from the exile’s grave. Then they will return to Litewski Square to finish the walk in front of the monument to our most outstanding poet – Józef Czechowicz. At the end of the tour, competition for the participant’s favorite monument of the tour will be organized.

Practical information:

A scenario and a duration of the walk are up to the expectation of participants. The walking tour is dedicated to teenagers and adults. There is a tour for kids too.
In the case of small groups, it is possible to negotiate the price for the service.
In case of booking of more than one part of a route, there is a 20% discount for each additional part.
