Lublin in the footsteps of Eastern Christianity

Lublin in the footsteps of Eastern Christianity

It is a walk around Lublin that allows you to discover both known and forgotten traces left by Poles, Greeks, Ukrainians, Russians and other followers of Eastern Churches over 700 years of Lublin’s history.

John Paul II once said that Christianity breathes with two lungs: eastern and western. This was and still is the case in Lublin too. The city has been a meeting place of cultures, home to Christians of various denominations and rites since the dawn of its history. During the walk, we will discover places related to the history and present of the Orthodox and Greek Catholic Churches, as well as places where the cultural influences of these religious traditions are visible. We will start the route at the Transfiguration Cathedral, and then we will go towards the city centre to discover both known and forgotten traces left by Poles, Greeks, Ukrainians, Russians and other followers of Eastern Churches over the 700 years of Lublin's history.

I am a graduate of history studies at UMCS, a licensed Beskid guide, a tour leader and a Lublin guide. I work at the State Museum at Majdanek on a daily basis. I was born in Lublin and I have lived in this city all my life, therefore showing its charms gives me great joy and satisfaction.

I am particularly interested in the history of Lublin under the German occupation, the fate of Lublin Jews and the history of Christian denominations.
